When it comes to a construction or joinery project, whether it’s in your office, a commercial space, or your home, you want to work with a company which will show up when they say they will, will deliver the quality they promise, and provide the full project in a cost effective and efficient manner.

Well, we don’t think that’s much to ask for at all – after all, you deserve the best. That’s why we’ve put together this short guide to finding the right joinery company for your project, with guidance on each of the steps to finding the best fit for you.

Ask about experience

A company might have decades of experience on paper or on their website, but is that experience relevant to your project and what you want to achieve? For example, if a company only has testimonials and case studies from big commercial projects then you know that they might not have a ton of experience with residential bespoke fittings.

Check their expert qualifications and previous experiences and consider asking them for a proposal based on how they would complete your project. It’s not unusual or out of the ordinary to collect a series of quotes and then compare.

Reputation and recommendations

Joinery project

Where possible, you want to work with a joinery company that hold a good reputation in your local area – ideally collecting recommendations from people you know regarding companies they have used in the past. Reputation is a big part of expertise and will help you decide if a company is right for your project.

Speak to the professionals

Friend and family recommendations are great, but if you want to know more about a joinery company then it’s worth looking up previous projects they have worked on and talking to the building inspector for those projects. These are the people who can really recognise a good job well done, and they will be able to let you know about the strong points or any red flags you should be aware of.

Deadlines – and their ability to meet them

You want to work with a company that is confident in their ability to meet a deadline – and the best indicator of this is whether or not they give you a deadline and timeline for completion. If a company is vague about delivery time, then the chances are that they will not be meeting set deadlines, so make sure that you lay out your expectations early on and ensure consistent streams of communication.

A good company will also provide you with updates as the project progresses, so don’t be afraid to ask for updates and check in when you want to know what’s going on and which parts of the project have been completed.
